The Brandeis Divestment Campaign aims to divest Brandeis’ endowment from the fossil fuel industry. Currently, we have about 7%-10% of our endowment invested in the fossil fuel industry.
Being at Brandeis, the idea of “social justice” is well-woven into the way we view climate change. And we act because we have the privilege to and because the urgency of the crisis calls for it.
Divestment should be seen as a first step towards creating the world that we want to see; alongside policy change and wider, popular action, we need to be investing our money in a way that realizes business as usual is unacceptable.
In April 2013, a referendum on divestment was passed by the student body by a landslide 79%.
We know that this is possible, and we have 250+ other campus campaigns backing us up.
Onward and upward,
